Hello everyone, just a quick update in regards to future litters.  Currently, none of our females are pregnant but we are hopeful at least one or more will be going into heat in the next 30 days or so.  My best “guess” is that we will have more puppies in the next 3 or 4 months.  I will keep everyone posted if anything changes.  If you are interested in getting on our waiting list, please complete a puppy questionnaire on our website and submit it for our review.

In other news….we are expecting another litter to be born in the next couple of weeks.  They will be ready to go home around mid July.  This is from one of our first time moms Peggy Carter.  She actually belongs to our daughters Nikki Kay and Alyssa who both live here and are an active part of Shadow Mountain Goldens.  We will make an announcement and post pictures once the litter is born.  Again, if you are interested, you will need to complete a puppy questionnaire located on our website and submit it for review.

Happy New Year from Shadow Mountain Goldens!  Here is the latest.  Our current litter of puppies from Doc and Riley are almost 7 weeks old.  Of course they are all reserved and will be going to their new homes in a little over a week.  Our next litter will be from Theo and Brandy.  This will be their first litter.  We will give more information on this shortly.  Our wait time is approximately 12 months for our approved families who have left a $300 deposit.  If you are interested in a puppy, please visit our “PUPPY” tab and go to the section “How to reserve a puppy”.

March 29, 2021

Hello Shadow Mountain Family!  Just wanted to give everyone an update as far as potential upcoming letters.  This week Sierra and Duchess both had ultrasounds to confirm possible pregnancy.  The good news is that Sierra is pregnant!     She is due around April 10th or 11th.  However, our vet said it looks like a very small litter.  Unfortunately, Duchess did not get pregnant this time.  On a more positive note, it looks like Riley is pregnant and we should expect puppies mid April (probably 16th or 17th).  All of our upcoming litters have been reserved.  We are now quoting 18 to 24 month wait time on our approved families who have left a deposit.  We will keep everyone posted on any progress.  To get more current updated information, please follow us on our Instagram account.

WARNING:  Please be aware,  online scams are on the rise!  We are hearing some very sad stories.  If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.  Please do your homework.  I am going to provide the following information compliments of the American Kennel Club on “How to Spot a Puppy Scam Online”

In today’s digital world, almost everyone uses the internet for shopping, including finding a new puppy! Don’t worry — it’s easy to spot puppy scams online if you’re aware of the red flags to look for. And it’s even easier to find a good breeder when you know what questions to ask. Here’s everything you need to know before starting your online puppy search.

What is a Puppy Scam?

Puppy scammers post fake litters online or pretend to be someone they’re not (usually an existing breeder) to take advantage of puppy sales (sans the puppies.) This means that if you aren’t careful, you could find the perfect puppy, send the ‘breeder’ your money, and never receive a puppy or any follow-up communication in return.

While many times these fake listings appear on websites like Craigslist, some scammers find ways to position themselves as reputable breeders by stealing personal info from them.

Luckily, it’s easy to know what to look for to ensure your puppy buying experience is both safe and enjoyable.

What are the Red Flags?

  • No phone calls. The seller prefers to handle communication by email and not the phone. A reputable breeder will always communicate with you via phone or video chat (if not in person) before selling you a puppy. Fraudulent sellers are oftentimes outside of the U.S. and may be hiding their phone number by only communicating by email.
  • Copycat or stock photos. Photos of the dog or ad text can be found on multiple websites. Search for the text in the listing to see if the seller copied and pasted it from another site.
  • Sketchy payment. The seller asks for wiring of money or payment by gift cards. Be aware that if you choose a non-secure method of payment, it is highly unlikely that you will get your money back. Avoid paying a stranger using apps such as Venmo, as it is harder to get your money back if you don’t get what you paid for. Paying by credit card or PayPal are typically the safest options.
  • Price is too good to be true. Research the prices for the breed you are considering ahead of time. Purebred dogs sold at deeply discounted prices are typically frauds. If the seller says they register their dogs with a specific organization, you can call the organization to confirm.
  • How Many People Have Been Affected by Puppy Scams?

According to BBB data, nearly 10,000 scam reports and complaints have come in during the last three years about “businesses” selling puppies and dogs. The FTC estimates that only about 10 percent of victims report these crimes, so this number could be much higher.

Sixty percent of these reports indicated the consumers never received the pets they purchased, and others received pets that had health or genetic problems and did not receive documentation for their pet.

“Scammers love to try to take advantage of people when they are in high emotion situations,” said Steve Bernas, president and CEO of BBB serving Chicago and Northern Illinois. “The excitement of buying a new pet can cloud good judgement, and victims can be hurt financially and emotionally when they realize they have lost their money, and hopes for a new pet.”

How Can I Safely Find a Breeder or Puppy Seller Online?

While scammers are likely to start talking money immediately, legitimate sources will always take time and diligence to make sure the dog you are choosing is a good fit for your family.

    • Analyze reviews and referrals. The best sources for purebred puppies will have ample positive reviews or referrals from satisfied puppy owners proving they are legitimate and reputable.
    • Meet your breeder or puppy seller. Always ask to talk on the phone or video chat. Meeting in person is great whenever possible.
    • Ask questions. Responsible breeders and puppy sellers love to chat and educate about dogs. Ask anything and everything that you might want to know about the breed, the breeder, and the available puppies.  Ask about the breed and how your pup’s parents compare to the official breed standard and other breed traits. How big are the parents? What do they look like? What kind of temperament do they have? Have the parents achieved any AKC titles or awards?
    • Ask for proof. Don’t be shy — responsible breeders will be happy to share information about your puppy’s parents, and proof of health records and screenings. You should be sure that the puppy has been seen by a licensed veterinarian and know where the puppy is on their shot-schedule. This will also help you so that you have the proper medical information when you bring your puppy home and you will know what shots are needed next.
    • Get documentation. Ensure that before leaving with your puppy, you will receive documentation of your dog’s papers. The words “American Kennel Club” as well as the AKC logo should be clearly visible. If the breeder or puppy seller hesitates to give you papers, this is usually a warning sign.
    • Be patient. If they seem anxious to complete the sale or get your deposit as soon as possible, or if you feel like they are pushing you to make a quick decision regarding a puppy, be careful. Such behavior is often a warning sign that the person you are dealing with is actually a scammer, and there is no puppy.

The AKC Marketplace is one of the best places to start your search for a puppy, as long as you are vigilant about the above warning signs. AKC Marketplace conducts thousands of kennel inspections a year and is the only online resource to exclusively list 100% puppies from AKC-registerable litters. If you find anything suspicious while searching for a dog on AKC Marketplace, report the details to akcmarketplace@akc.org.

Now that you are armed with the proper knowledge to start your online puppy search safely, have fun and get ready to bring home your new pet!

November 12, 2018

Hello everyone!  Just another short update here at Shadow Mountain Goldens.  As some of you are aware that were at our open house (see short video below) Duchess and Shasta did not get pregnant this heat cycle.  We are all disappointed, but are looking forward to next time.  These things are hard to anticipate, but we are hoping for some pregnancies in the next 4 to 6 months.  We will definitely keep everyone informed as soon as we have information to share.  We have done some nice renovations here at Shadow Mountain Goldens in the last month or so.  We will post some pictures in the next couple of weeks.  We appreciate everyone’s patience for those who have put down deposits for your next puppy.  Our next open house will be in about 3 to 4 months.

(November 30,2017)
Hello everyone, I thought it was about time to update everyone on what has been going on here at Shadow Mountain Goldens. Duchess’ puppies all went to their permanent new homes just before the Thanksgiving weekend. It was very exciting to see all of the families again. Thanks to all of you for giving “our puppies” such wonderful homes.
At this time, none of our breeding females are pregnant. We had 3 of them to the vet today for an ultra sound just to check, but no puppies yet. However, we are expecting one or more to be going into heat in the next couple of weeks. Since Duke will now be our new stud dog and this will be his first time to produce a litter, we are going to be doing artificial insemination as soon as the next female is ready. We will keep everyone posted. For more frequent updates, follow us on Instagram.
On another note, we had a site visit today from the American Kennel Club. They did their annual inspection. It was very detailed and thorough. I am very happy to report we are in compliance with all AKC Rules, Regulations, and Policies. They had very complimentary things to say about our Goldens and facilities. We will be happy to furnish a copy of the report upon request. As soon as there is any more pertinent news I will let everyone know.
Have a nice evening!
James/Shadow Mountain Goldens
(September 25,2017)
This is a follow up from my post earlier today. We received some good news regarding Duchess. Based on her ultrasound today, the vet definitely confirmed pregnancy. Also, she is much further along than we anticipated. Our veterinarian is estimating her delivery within the next 7 to 10 days! It will be great to have puppies here again at Shadow Mountain Goldens. It is extra special since Simba is the father! It looks like the puppies are healthy and moving around a lot. You can never be exact, but based on a follow up x-ray it appears there are between 7 and 9 puppies! We will keep everyone posted. Also, please go to the “videos” tab to see some highlights of our open house we had this past Saturday. Have a nice evening!

(September 25, 2017)
Hello everyone! We had a great turnout for our open house this last weekend! So nice to meet some new faces and introduce you to our beautiful Goldens! Will post a short “highlight” video shortly. Stay tuned and we will announce the next open house probably in October.
On a sad note, many of you that follow us on social media are aware that our wonderful Simba passed away last month. It was very shocking to us as there were no signs of him being sick. We do not know the cause of death, but based on our consultation with our vet, they think it may have been a ruptured spleen. We really appreciate all of the concern and warm and understanding expressions. Although this was a setback for Shadow Mountain Goldens, we will be fine and carry on. However Simba will be greatly missed!
On a positive note, it looks like Duchess is pregnant! The really exciting part is that Simba would be the father! We have an appointment today with our veterinarian to perform the ultrasound to confirm. We will post the news once this is confirmed. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
(May 9, 2017)
Good Afternoon!
Things have been quite busy here at Shadow Mountain Goldens! Duchess’ puppies are all going to their new homes this week. As you can imagine, everyone is very excited. Also, we did receive confirmation that Princess and Shasta are expecting. Puppies will be here soon. We are anticipating the middle of May or slightly longer. We are also having another open house this Saturday, May 13, 2017 from 10am to noon. If you are attending, please RSVP as space is limited. If you have any questions about anything, please feel free to contact us. Please click on the “Contact Us” tab.
Have a wonderful day!

Good Morning! I hope everyone had a nice weekend. We had a great turnout for our open house on Saturday March 18th. You can see some “video highlights” of the event on the “video” tab. Also some of you that follow us on Instagram are aware that Duchess had her puppies on Tuesday March 14th. Mom and puppies are doing fantastic! It was a little unusual that she had 9 puppies and 8 of them were boys! Only 1 little girl in this litter. You can also see a short video on the “video” tab. We will continue to keep you updated on all the happenings here at Shadow Mountain Goldens. Have a wonderful week!

Good Morning! I just need to make a quick amendment to my last post on February 20th. I noticed that I indicated our next open house will be at March 25th. That was a mistake. The actual date for the open house will be . We hope to see you there. If you plan on attending, please RSVP via email at: The time will be the same from 10am to 12 noon. (February 20, 2017)
Good afternoon! I hope everyone is having a nice Presidents day. Things are great here at Shadow Mountain Goldens. We are enjoying a little break from all of the rain we have been having. I would like to update everyone on a few things. Last week we took Duchess to the reproductive specialist to have an ultrasound and received good news. They confirmed that she is pregnant! We are expecting her puppies to be born around March 16th. We are very excited and will keep you all updated on the progress. At this time none of our other females are in heat. Again we will keep you all updated.
We are planning on having another open house here on Saturday March 18th – weather permitting. We will start at 10am and close at 12pm. This is a great time to meet us and our Goldens. I give a short presentation, give away a door prize, and open it up for a question and answer session. After that you can go outside and meet and play with the dogs.
Please visit the new “VIDEO” tab on our website. I just posted a new video I took yesterday. Also, please follow us on Instagram. We regularly post pictures and videos. We also encourage you to send in pictures of your Goldens you purchased from Shadow Mountain and we post them as well.
I have also updated some of the pictures on the “Our Dogs” tab. In addition you can see our new business license renewal from the City of Moreno Valley on the “Business License” tab.
Have a great week everyone!

(December 30, 2016)
Good afternoon! I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season and is looking forward to a Happy New Year in 2017. I just wanted to give everyone a few updates. Shasta and Princess’ litters have all gone to their new homes now. From the reports we are getting they are all doing well and adjusting to their new families. So at this time, we do not have any puppies and none of our females are pregnant at this time. We are anticipating Duchess to go into heat next. We will let everyone know when this happens and when she becomes pregnant. We did get back her official preliminary health certs from the OFA (Orthopedic Foundation of America) and we received good news. Her hips and elbows both came back good! So we are planning on breeding her on her next cycle. Many of you (you know who you are) are on our reservation list anxiously waiting for a new puppy. Although it is hard to calculate, our best estimation on how long it will take to get a puppy from us is around 12 to 18 months. If you are interested in getting on the list, please visit the “puppies” tab and read “How to reserve a puppy.” If you have any questions please feel free to contact us. Again, Happy New Year from our family to yours!
Sincerely, James
Shadow Mountain Goldens
Good Evening! I just wanted to post a short video of Shasta’s puppies I took tonight. They are 11 days old. The puppies are doing great, and as you can see they love to eat!
Have a great weekend!

(October 8, 2016)

Hello everyone! I hope everyone is having a nice weekend. I want to give you all a few updates. First, we are very excited to report on Princess’ progress. She had a follow up ultrasound today at our reproductive specialist and they confirmed pregnancy! Princess is very healthy and if everything goes as planned, we are expecting her puppies to be born on November 1, 2016. Most of you know Shasta is also pregnant and getting very close. We are expecting her puppies next Wednesday October 12, 2016. It has been awhile since we have had puppies here at Shadow Mountain and we are very excited. For those who may be just visiting this web site, both of these litters are already reserved. Those who are on the list know who you are. Please see our puppy page regarding “how to reserved a puppy” if you are interested.

One last thing, we recently took X-rays of Duchess’ hips and elbows. We are anxiously waiting for the results from the OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals). However, according to our vet who reviewed them, the preliminary report looks good. I will let you know when we have the official results. It has been awhile since we posted any pictures of Duchess and several have requested them. The following are a few pictures I took of her today. Have a great rest of your weekend!

FRAUD ALERT!!!!

I just wanted to make everyone aware of a scam. I do not want you to be a victim of this kind of fraud! There is a website out there by the name of Fantasy Retrievers. It is www.fantasyretrievers.com and they are advertising Golden Retrievers and then once you send the money they do not deliver! Unfortunately they are also using a picture of my family from our website to try and be more credible…so sad! Several people have contacted us and let us know about this. Sadly they sent money and never received a puppy. Please do not do business with Fantasy Retrievers. They have also done business under various other names. This is just another good example of making sure you do your homework before you do business with a breeder. Please do not let your emotion cloud your clear thinking. NEVER send money without making sure they are credible! This is another reason Shadow Mountain Goldens does not ship puppies. We want to meet you and encourage you to visit our facility before you make an investment. We would never sell you a dog unless we feel comfortable with you, and we also want you to feel good about doing business with our family.

The Western Union fraud department has been notified as well as the Police Department. It is always a “red flag” when a breeder does not let you visit their premises and ONLY ships their dogs while requiring you to send your money in advance. Sorry to all who have been affected by this. It is sad we live in a world where people are deceptive and take advantage of the innocent. I just wanted you to all be aware.

Thanks, James

(September 24, 2016)

Hello, I hope everyone is having a great weekend! We had a great turnout for our Shadow Mountain open house today. We had about 12 to 15 people show up. Everyone had an opportunity to introduce themselves, I gave a presentation about our business operations, we had some great questions, and one lucky person won the raffle drawing. The best part seemed to be meeting and interacting with the goldens! Thanks for everyone who showed up to make this a huge success. We will be having another open house in October. Stay tuned for more information. Shasta is doing well and looking very pregnant! We take Princess back to the vet in a couple of weeks for another ultrasound, hopefully to confirm pregnancy. Have a great rest of your weekend! I have included several pictures below from today’s open house.

James

(September 13, 2016)

Hello everyone! I just wanted to give you an update from the August 23rd post regarding Shasta. Yesterday we did a follow up appointment with the reproductive specialist. They performed an ultrasound and we received the GOOD NEWS that she is definitely pregnant. We are very excited and expecting puppies around October 12th and they can go home December 7th.

We also took Duchess to the vet yesterday and had X-rays on her hips and elbows. We plan on breeding her in the near future and want to make sure she gets her health clearances from the OFA. The “preliminary” report was very good. The vet says her hips and elbows look very good. We will now wait to get official confirmation from the OFA along with her certifications. So in summary in was a great day at Shadow Mountain with some exciting news. We will keep everyone updated as we get more information. Have a great day!

James

(September 4, 2016)
We picked up Duke last night at the airport around midnight. He is adjusting very well to his new environment. He is very sweet and gentle with the right amount of “spunk”. Here is a picture. We will post a video I took last night shortly.

(September 3, 2016)
Happy Saturday! I hope everyone is having a great Labor day weekend. I just wanted to post a few more updates. Princess came into heat again and it looks like she might have gotten pregnant on August 31st. We won’t be able to confirm this for about 30 days. But if everything goes as we hope, she would deliver her puppies around November 1st of this year. That means her puppies will be able to go to their new homes on Christmas Weekend! We will keep you posted.
We are also going to bring Shasta back to the reproductive specialist in about a week to confirm her pregnancy. We are anticipating her puppies October 12th and they can go home December 7th.
One more bit of exciting news…we are picking up our new puppy “Duke” at Ontario International Airport tonight! I will post pictures/videos tomorrow.
Bye for now, James
(August 23, 2016)

Happy Tuesday to everyone! It has been awhile since I have given any updates. We have had a long “puppy break” and can’t wait to have puppies frolicking around the premises again! So let me bring everyone up to speed on what has been happening here at Shadow Mountain Goldens. We were expecting puppies from Princess in July but unfortunately as many of you waiting know, she didn’t get pregnant this time. We did take her to our vet and performed an ultrasound as a precaution. The good news is that Princess is in very good health and there does not seem to be any reproductive issues. So hopefully she gets pregnant on her next heat cycle. As far as Simba goes, we also wanted to make sure he is still a good “stud” dog and that reproductively he was also in good shape. Shasta was just coming into “heat” and we wanted to make sure we didn’t miss the critical timing. We took them both (Simba and Shasta) to a reproductive specialist. We got some more good news. Simba is still very healthy and has a very high sperm count. When they checked Shasta, she was also in very good reproductive health. In fact, she was in heat at that moment and they did some testing to determine it was the optimal time for her to het pregnant. We opted to have the vet perform artificial insemination on the spot. They placed the sperm right into Shasta’s uterus which really increases her chances of a good pregnancy. So what does this all mean? If everything went as we are hoping, Shasta would have officially gotten pregnant on August 10th. That would put her anticipated due date around October 12, 2016. The puppies would be able to go to their new homes around December 7th….just in time for the Holidays! We will be taking Shasta back to the vet in a couple of weeks for another ultrasound and will be able to confirm pregnancy at that time. We will keep you posted. Keep your fingers crossed! As far as the wait for you that are on the “reserved” list, it is still about 12 to 18 months before you could take a puppy home. Please understand there are many variables. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us. We also just acquired a new male puppy with an outstanding pedigree and champion lines. We do not have him yet but are very excited to put him into our breeding program. As soon as we bring him home we will post pictures and videos. You are going to fall in love with his looks. His name is “Duke”. Thanks for visiting our site and we really appreciate your patience. As many of our customers will attest, it is worth the wait!

Have a fantastic week!

James

Hello everyone. I just wanted to give you a quick update. For those of you that follow us on Instagram you know that Shasta had her puppies yesterday March 20,2016. She had a total of 6 puppies: 5 boys and 1 girl. This is a little smaller litter than she normally has. The puppies are in excellent health and Shasta did a wonderful job. I will update this page with pictures and videos shortly. On another note, here at Shadow Mountain Goldens we had our membership with the Golden Retriever Club of America approved again for another year. We strive to comply with their Code of Ethics. You can learn more about them at www.grca.org
Also for those of you interested in reserving a puppy, our current approved waiting list is about 18 months. Obviously there are many factors that can change the wait time.
Talk to you soon, James

I know I just posted some comments a couple of days ago. However I wanted to just give you a couple of updates. First, we are now accepting all major credit cards for the first time. Several of you have been requesting this. There is a small fee to utilize this service. Also in my last post I shared the good news that we added “Sierra” to our family. In the March 8th post I included a new video of her. I also added a new picture of her to “Our Dogs” tab with a brief description. In her descrition I talk about her amazing parents “Bode” and “Layma”. They are English Crème Retrievers with multiple champions in their pedigree. I have also included a picture of Sierra’s parents just below this post. As you can see they are amazing and have all the qualities of a well bred golden. James

Hello everyone, it has been about a month since I last posted anything. I just wanted to give everyone an update on what is going on here at Shadow Mountain Goldens. We did acquire a new puppy to our Shadow Mountain family. Her name is “Sierra” and she flew all the way from Iowa to Southern California. She is a bundle of joy and energy and is adjusting to her new friends and surroundings. She is a beautiful English Cream Golden and our hope is to add her to our breeding program in about 2 years. See the video below of her playing with Derek.
I also wanted to thank all of our new puppy owners again. It was so nice to meet you all and make new friends. Thanks so much for giving our puppies such wonderful homes. It has been quiet around here with no puppies for several weeks. However it looks like that will be changing soon. As many of you know, Shasta is definitely pregnant and we are expecting her puppies in about 2 weeks! Of course this litter is already reserved. For more information on how to reserve a puppy, please see our “puppies” tab. Once Shasta has her puppies you will see much more pictures and videos. You can also follow up on Instagram (Shadow Mountain Goldens) where we frequently post some great stuff! If you have any questions there are many ways to reach us. Please see our “Contact Us” tab. Talk to you soon! James

Good evening! It was a great day here at Shadow Mountain Goldens. It was a beautiful sunshiny Southern California day and the puppies were able to experience the outdoors for the first time. They loved exploring the grass in the backyard and also seeing the puppy run where they will spend a significant amount of time, weather permitting. We introduced them to some real food also and they loved it. We will slowly be weaning them off Princess’ milk over the next few weeks. Please enjoy the following video. There is also a new video and a few pictures I added to the “puppies” page. Have a nice weekend!

Hello everyone! We hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving weekend. It was nice to see several of “our” puppies come back home and visit over the holiday weekend. It was like a family reunion. I am glad so many are taking advantage of our boarding policy. If you want us to board your puppy/dog, please make sure to give us as much advance notice as possible.
Well, it looks like Princess in on schedule to have her puppies around the Christmas weekend. I examined her this past week and it looks like she is pregnant! Sometimes it is hard to tell in the first month without doing a sonogram. However, she is gaining weight nicely. We will keep everyone on the reservation list posted.
Enjoy this video I took over the Thanksgiving weekend.

(This post was on January 10, 2015)

Hello everyone! I just wanted to give you all a few updates on the latest developments here at Shadow Mountain Goldens. Shasta just delivered puppies on January 10th! We are all very excited about that. Mom and puppies are doing excellent! She had a total of 11 puppies – 7 boys and 4 girls. This litter is already reserved. Those of you that are on the approved waiting list will be contacted shortly to set up appointments to come and meet your puppies.

As you might imagine our waiting list far exceeds the amount of puppies we have available. If you are interested in being placed on the list please complete the “puppy questionnaire” (see tab on left) and send it to us as soon as possible for review. If you can wait and are patient, we will eventually have a gorgeous golden puppy for you to take home! As of now we are reserving puppies for this coming summer and next Christmas. Again the sooner you send us the questionnaire the better chance of you getting a puppy this year. We are planning on at least one litter and maybe more around the July 4th weekend and then again between Christmas and next new years. If you pick a puppy from the July litter your puppy will be able to go home the first part of September. The Christmas/New years litter will be the end of February/fist part of March.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. Please see our “contact us” tab. There is much more information on this website and lots of pictures. Please see the “puppies” page for fun pictures and updates as well.

Hope you all have a wonderful new year in 2015. We look forward to meeting you and hopefully providing you with a beautiful golden retriever puppy from Shadow Mountain Goldens!

Sincerely, James Werner
